Romar Ready To Get Rolling
Nov. 2, 2009
SEATTLE - The Huskies took the court on Monday, two days ahead of their exhibition opener against Central Washington. The squad is anxious to take on somebody else in front of a friendly crowd.
'We want to see how close at this stage of two weeks into practice where we're at,' said Husky head coach Lorenzo Romar in regards to his goals for Wednesday's game. 'Obviously we'll be playing differently in January, but we want to see if we are where we need to be at in November.'
On Saturday, the team held an intrasquad game and Romar indicated that the team made some steps since practice officially opened on Oct. 17 and has moved past the flu bug that hit the team that first week.
'Everybody is back out on the court and that is the good thing,' said Romar. 'I think as a team we made some progress and that is what you want. We have to make more progress though in the next couple of days. We have Central Washington on Wednesday and then we have eight days before we open the season.'
Romar is hesitant to pigeon-hole players in roles and to announce starting spots still. He is going to let Monday and Tuesday's practices dictate who will start in Wednesday's exhibition opener.
Romar did tell walk on Brendan Sherrer that he is part of the team officially. The 6-foot-9, 240 pound sophomore out of Archbishop Murphy High School will provide the Huskies some depth down low and be a great practice player for the team.
'He's got size and that is something that will help us when practicing,' said Romar. 'He's strong enough to push the other guys and he's only a sophomore, so he has a chance to grow with the guys. He also has a great attitude and work ethic.'
The Dawgs take the floor this Wednesday at Bank of America Arena at 7:00 pm. Tickets are still available by calling the Husky Ticket Office at 206-543-2200 or by ordering online.
