Pair Of Husky Rowers Pick Up Win In Canada
Nov. 4, 2009
LONDON, Ontario -- The Huskies are still in the midst of fall training, but a pair of Washington rowers had some success today on the water in Canada.
Conlin McCabe (stroke) Anthony Jacob (bow) won the pair event for the 2009 National Rowing Championships on Wednesday in London, Ontario on Fanshawe Lake. McCabe, a freshman, and Jacob, a junior, pulled through first with an official time of 7:05.55, a near three seconds better than the second place finisher. They bested an all-Husky alumni boat of Will Crothers and Rob Gibson, two natives of Kingston, Ontario. Crothers and Gibson finished sixth with a time of 7:21.15.
McCabe competed this summer for Canada in the FISA World Championships in Poland. He spent his freshman season in the 2009 undefeated Pac-10 Champion and IRA National Champion eight. He finished fourth in the coxed pair race. Gibson also raced this summer in Poland in the Canadian eight that won silver.
Crothers, Gibson and Jacob all rowed in the 2009 varsity eight boat that won the IRA National Championship.
This weekend, both Husky crews will compete on their home course at the Head of the Lake. It will be the last race of the fall season.
