Stoops a Semifinalist for National Coach of Year

SOUTHAMPTON, Pa.--Arizona Coach Mike Stoops has been named a semifinalist for the 21st George Munger Award for College Coach of the Year, the Maxwell Football Club announced today.
Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski announced a list of 15 candidates for the Munger Award.Stoops, 47, in his sixth year at Arizona, has the 5-2 Wildcats ranked No. 18 in the latest BCS ratings, No. 21 in the Associated Press poll and No. 19 in the USA Today coaches poll. They are Arizona's first rankings since the 2000 season.
The Maxwell Club named 15 semifinalists for the Munger Award, along with candidates for the Maxwell Award and for the Bednarik Award. Stoops and Chip Kelly of Oregon are the two Pac-10 coaches on the list for the coaching honor.
The Maxwell Football Club will announce the winner of the 21st George Munger Award via a press release in December. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Dinner, to be held on Friday March 5, 2010, at the Harrah's Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, N.J.
Voting for all three of the collegiate awards presented by the Maxwell Football Club will begin on Nov. 4 and close on Nov. 22. Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA Head Football Coaches, Sports Information Directors and selected national media.
