Washington Post-Game Quotes vs. Central Washington
Nov. 5, 2009
Washington Coach Tia Jackson:
You have to love exhibition games. They reveal a lot about the things we need to work on to get ready for a pretty competitive preseason and even more competitive conference play.
On Regina Roger's debut:
First game jitters -it's her first time in a Husky uniform, playing. I think the other thing is having someone her size on the floor is she stands out, she's like Shaq. And sometimes that's easy pickings.
On the flow of the game: We were just so excited to get going, I think it's trying to pull back on the reins a little bit and say, whoa, we can still have the same success at maybe a different pace, and picking and choosing when we want to pick up that pace. I think it was a collective effort. I look at things that were happening on defense, we just had some good things. SPU kept coming after us, but we continued to depend on that, and then tried to go with our initial plan which was get it inside to our bigs.
Washington forward Laura McLellan
On coming off the bench: I think we had a running joke last season that every time I came off the bench I played so much better...I kind of like coming off the bench and seeing how the defense plays.
On what she's working on with her game: I'm working on not dribbling in the post, I have a no-dribble rule. And playing more back to the basket, using my physicality when I can.
Washington guard Sami Whitcomb
On Sara Mosiman's game: I think she showed why she earned that spot. She was 7 for 11 tonight and she's been super consistent all summer and all preseason and so I think she definitely showed that. She comes off the screen really well and reads it really well and just has a really nice mid-range jumper.
On what she worked on over the summer: I worked a lot on trying to see the floor better, driving and trying to find the open person, and recognizing that. So hopefully that.
