Jason Watson Collects 100th Career Coaching Win As Volleyball Tops Oregon State 3-1

TEMPE, Ariz. – Twenty kills from Sarah Reaves combined with ten block assists from Paige Mittelstaedt was enough to lead the Sun Devils over the Oregon State Beavers Friday night with a 25-16, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-13 four-set win to push their record to 13-11 overall and 3-9 in conference play. The win also set a milestone for Head Coach Jason Watson as it was his 100th career victory as a head coach.
Set one saw Sarah Reaves drop five kills to lead the offense while Cat Highmark tossed the rock for 13 assists as ASU hit .433 attack mark while five team blocks, with Paige Mittelstaedt leading the defense with four block assists while Sarah Reaves and Ashley Kastl posted two block assists apiece.
Set two saw Reaves light up the boards again with seven kills for a .357 attack percentage, but OSU stepped up to snap out of their slow start as they posted a .260 attack percentage with Rachel Rourke posting nine kills to for a .538 attack percentage to snake a 25-23 win to tie it at one apiece headed into the break.
The third set saw ASU put it back together in with Reaves killing six in the set while ASU took advantage of OSU’s 11 unforced errors in the set as ASU took the lead again with a 25-20 win. The fourth set was all ASU though as Ashley Kastl killed four while the defense posted 4.5 blocks with Paige Mittelstaedt collecting three block assists as ASU ran off with a decisive 25-13 win to seal the match. Mittelstaedt’s 10 block assists on the night also ties her for second in ASU single-match history a mark, she’s made once before in her career as well as teammate Sonja Markanovich who share the record.
After the match, Jason Watson commented on the match stating, “The team played well tonight with both our offense and defense coming out for a solid match overall. We played well throughout nearly the entire match, which has been a goal we’ve been working toward all year.”
Up next the Sun Devils travel to Eugene as they set to take on the No. 14 Oregon Ducks tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
