Bruins Finish Fourth at Gifford Collegiate Championship

The 17th-ranked UCLA men's golf team captured fourth place at the fifth annual Gifford Collegiate Championship at the CordeValle Resort in San Martin, Calif.
Second-ranked Stanford claimed its second GCC title with a 24-under par total of 1,056 in the six-count-five format. Top-ranked Oklahoma State placed second, three strokes behind at 1,059 (-21). Augusta State posted the best score of the final round -- 10-under par 350 -- and nabbed third place at 19-under par 1,061.
The Bruins posted a score of two-under 358 on Wednesday and finished 11 strokes behind the leader at 1,067 (-13). First-round leader Duke placed fifth at 1,073 (-7).
Individually for the Bruins, freshman Pontus Widegren carded his second straight sub-70 score, a five-under par 67, and tied for third place at eight-under par 208. Teammate Pedro Figueiredo tied for eighth at 211 (-5) following a final round score of 70 (-2). Sophomore Alex Shi Yup Kim tied for 23rd at one-under par 215 after carding an even par 72. Sophomore Gregor Main posted a 77 (+5) in the final round and fell into a tie for 28th at 216 (E). Freshmen Mario Clemens and Bobby Lange tied for 54th and 72nd, respectively. Clemens signed for a 78 (+6) and finished at 223 (+7) and Lange improved with an even par 72 for a 54-hole total of 226 (+10). Playing as an individual, sophomore Beau Schoolcraft tied for 78th at 12-over par 228 following a final round score of 81 (+9).
Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein carded his third straight sub-70 score in the final round and won medalist honors with a 14-under par total of 202.
