We made it! Day 1 from Columbus
Nov. 11, 2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio -
We made it. After a long day of travel that started by leaving Gill Coliseum before the sun rose and ended just as the sun was setting in Ohio the Oregon State women's soccer team is in Columbus, Ohio and is ready to go.
The bus loaded at 6:45 a.m. PST and headed for Eugene airport where we loaded straight onto the ExpressJet charter on a one stop, just to refuel, trip to Columbus. The flight was relatively uneventful but the excitement started to rise the closer we got to our destination.
The decent into Columbus took us right over the Ohio State campus and over Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium where the team will be taking on the Buckeyes Friday night. The entire team crowded the left side of the plane to get the best look.
After landing around 4:45 EST, another bus picked us up and it was straight to the Woody Hayes indoor facility on the campus of Ohio State University to get some practice in after the long plane flight. The team went through a slightly shortened normal workout.
Following the workout, it was off to the Crown Plaza to check in and have the first team meal on the trip. The dinner was exquisite and the team had the rest of the night to relax, get used to the time change, catch up on homework and midterms.
We had not even been on the ground for half an hour before the interview request started coming in. Head Coach Linus Rhode and Ashley Folsom did the first batch of interviews for a local paper back home.
Check back tomorrow night with more from Columbus and the first rounds of the NCAA Championships.
