Wrestling Opens 2009-10 Season at SOU Open

Corvallis, Ore. – The 2009-10 Oregon State wrestling team opens its season at the Southern Oregon University (SOU) Open on Friday, Nov. 13. The two-day tournament will be held in at McNeal Pavilion on the SOU campus in Ashland, Ore.
Competition will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in the Crab-Pool Tournament. The pool champions and the number of wrestlers needed for an eight-man bracket will be selected from the top scoring second place wrestlers, advancing to Saturday for the Great Eight bracket, which begins at 9:00 a.m. There is no team scoring in this tournament.
Last season, Oregon State claimed five individual titles with five runner-up finishes. Returning are 141-pound champion, redshirt freshman Mike Mangrum (Auburn, Wash.), 141-pound runner-up sophomore Garrett Drucker (Huntington Beach, Calif.), 165-pound champion senior Keegan Davis (Salem, Ore.), 184-pound runner-up redshirt freshman Ty Vinson (Great Falls, Mont.), 197-pound runner-up sophomore Chad Hanke (Dayton, Ore.) and heavyweight champion sophomore Clayton Jack (Vacaville, Calif.).
Other teams competing are host, Southern Oregon, Highline Community College, Pacific (Ore.), Clackamas Community College, Southwestern Oregon Community College and possibly several junior colleges from California.
