Oregon State is making its first appearance in the NCAA tournament since the 1994 season.
Oregon State enters the contest with a record of 12-7-1 on the season after the Beavers earned an at-large berth into the tournament. The win total is the fourth-highest in school history as Oregon State set a school record for Pac-10 Conference wins with four.
Chelsea Buckland leads the Oregon State attack heading into the tournament as the freshman enters the championship with seven goals and 16 points. Senior Melissa Peck ranks second on the squad with five goals and 15 points while senior Courtney Wetzel leads the team with four assists.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ashley Wood and Colleen Boyd continue to split time in net as the duo have combined to allow only 0.94 goals per game. Wood leads the squad with a 0.77 goals against average while Boyd has posted a mark of 1,07 goals against. Oregon State's opposition is only connecting on .098 percent of its shots.
Ohio State enters the tournament with a mark of 14-3-2 as the Buckeyes have been ranked in the top 25 for the latter half of the regular season. The Buckeyes were the runner-up in the Big Ten Conference with a best-ever 7-2-1 record as Ohio State is making its fifth NCAA tournament appearance.
Freshman Lauren Granberg leads the Ohio State attack with six goals, one assist and 13 points as Lauren Robertson has posted a strong 0.51 goals against average with 12 shutouts in net to lead the Buckeyes.
The meeting between Oregon State and Ohio State marks the first time the schools have met in women's soccer.
The winner of the match will advance to the second round to face the winner of Illinois State and third-seeded Florida on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 10:00 a.m.
