Ann Arbor Day 1: Travel/Laundry Day
Nov. 16, 2009
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - After spending nearly a week in Columbus, Ohio, the Oregon State women's soccer team traveled by bus the four hours to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a couple of days of training before heading on to South Bend, Ind. to take on the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Friday, Nov. 20 at 4:30 pm EST in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championships.
Breakfast was earlier than normal for the team today who had to get in their recovery time in the hotel pool before getting on the bus for the trip to Ann Arbor.
The bus ride went surprisingly smooth. The route taken took the team through the heartland of Ohio. After a brief lunch stop at Subway, we passed through cities like Bowling Green and Toledo before crossing over into Michigan.
After pulling up to our new hotel, one of the first things noticed by the team was the Brairwood Mall. Shortly after settling into the hotel dinner was served. Following dinner, arguably the most important event of the day happened, laundry.
The day also included a radio interview for golden goal scorer Melinda Ingalls on the Joe Beaver show on 1240 Joe Radio with John Warren and voice of the Beavers, Mike Parker. The podcast of the interview can be found here during the third segment of today's show.
With the team continuing on to the third round and not coming home, clean clothes was becoming scarce. The team went to a local Laundromat. With laundry taking up most of the evening, it was free time for the rest.
The weather is quite a bit cooler here in Michigan so the team is bundling up more than they had been. The high for tomorrow is predicted to be around 51 degrees but it feels a lot cooler than that due to the wind.
Tomorrows activities include a study trip to the University of Michigan's Academic center for some good study time and a tour of the campus.
Check back tomorrow night for more updates on the Oregon State women's soccer team and its journey though the NCAA Championships.
