Blue Team Earns 1-0 Victory in Game One of Blue-Gold World Series

LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Marc Navarro belted a solo home run to right field in the top of the sixth inning and the Blue Team held on for a 1-0 victory over the Gold Team in Game 1 (seven innings) of the UCLA baseball program's annual Blue-Gold World Series on Monday evening at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Navarro, serving as a designated hitter for the Blue Team, finished the evening 1-for-3.
Sophomore right-hander Trevor Bauer (1-0) earned the victory, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief. Bauer scattered three hits, allowed one walk and registered a game-high four strikeouts. Senior Jordan Haver (0-1) absorbed the loss, surrendering one run and two hits in 3.0 innings for the Gold Team.
Sophomore left-hander Mitchell Beacom recorded the save, notching two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
Freshman Aaron Weimer went 2-for-3 with two base-hits to left field and was the only player for either team to record two or more hits.
Sophomore right-hander Gerrit Cole allowed one hit and recorded one strikeout in 2.1 innings as the Blue Team's starting pitcher. Sophomore right-hander Dan Klein retired all six batters he faced in 2.0 scoreless frames as the Gold Team's starting pitcher. Klein finished his outing with three strikeouts.
Sophomore right-hander Erik Goeddel allowed one walk and recorded one strikeout in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief for the Gold Team.
The baseball program continues its Blue-Gold World Series on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
