UCLA Seeded Sixth In NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament
Nov. 16, 2009
No. 6 seed UCLA (10-3-4) will host the winner of Loyola Marymount/Sacramento State in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 5 pm at Drake Stadium.
At-large selection Loyola Marymount (10-8-2) will host MPSF Champion Sacramento State (11-5-3) in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 19. Sacramento State is making its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Sunday's game will be audio broadcast live on the internet at www.uclabruins.com. Tickets for the game will be $9 for adults and $7 for students/youth.
The back-to-back Pac-10 champion Bruins received the conference's automatic bid into the Tournament and have extended their streak of NCAA Tournament appearances to 27 consecutive years.
'We're excited to be a Top 8 seed in this year's tournament,' said UCLA head coach Jorge Salcedo. 'Regardless of your seed or where you end the season, it's the beginning of a new season, and whichever team we play will be a very tough, challenging match. Both LMU and Sac State had good conference seasons. LMU has proven to be able to go on the road and win big games, and Sac State winning the MPSF conference has proven their quality as well. We look forward to our second round match on Sunday, and we'll do everything within the week to be prepared.'
The Bruins have played four games against NCAA Tournament teams this season, posting a 3-1 record, with wins over No. 11 seed San Diego and Maryland and a season split against Stanford.
The seeded teams in the tournament are: 1. Akron, 2. Virginia, 3. Wake Forest, 4. Ohio State, 5. North Carolina, 6. UCLA, 7. Penn State, 8. Tulsa, 9. Northwestern, 10. Harvard, 11. San Diego, 12. Butler, 13. St. John's, 14. Michigan, 15. North Carolina State, 16. UC Irvine.
UCLA has won four NCAA titles (1985, 1990, 2002 and 2007) and advanced to the College Cup 12 times, most recently in 2006.
If UCLA wins its second round game, it will host the third round on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 5 pm.
