Ann Arbor Day 3: Training
Nov. 18, 2009
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - It is the final day in Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Oregon State women's soccer team and the main event of the day was a two hour training session on the University of Michigan's soccer fields.
The day started out like any other day, on this extended road trip, with breakfast at the hotel and free time in the morning to catch up on school work.
The team boarded the bus a little before 1:00 pm EST to head over to the field for training. It was a cold and overcast day out on the pitch but the new gloves and beanies that Nike so graciously shipped out for the team were put into immediate use. The temperature out here is not that cold, in fact it is a few degrees warmer than back home, but it is the wind that really makes it colder.
The team did not seem to be phased at all by the cold because they are just happy to still be playing. The day focused on sharpening the little details that win games like quick ball movement and making that one extra pass to open up a teammate.
Training ended a little earlier than scheduled, though no one seemed too disappointed, and it was back to the hotel for more studying and thawing out.
It was a night out for dinner tonight with a Romano's Macaroni Grill within walking distance of the team hotel. During dinner there was another impromptu singing of 'happy birthday,' this time to sophomore co-captain Brittany Galindo whose birthday is in a few days.
Tomorrow is another travel day for the team as it heads to South Bend, Ind. where it will get ready to take on No. 2 seeded Notre Dame Friday at 4:30 pm PST. The match against the Irish will be streamed live online at www.und.com.
