Gymnastics Announces Signing Class
Nov. 18, 2009
The Arizona State University women's gymnastics team has announced the signing of Sammie Seaman and the January addition of Amelia Rew. Missouri native Seaman has signed a National Letter of Intent to study and compete at ASU while Rew has been admitted for spring semester and will begin competing for the Sun Devils in January.
Rew, of Sioux Falls, S.D., will move to Tempe in January to compete with the Sun Devils this season. Expected to make an immediate impact on vault, Rew will also provide depth in the other three events. Rew, who holds a total of 17 South Dakota state titles, is also an exceptional student with a 4.0 grade point average. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of the Governor's Leadership Award.
'Amelia is someone with raw, great talent. She is an amazing athlete who possess strong physical attributes,' said 30th year head coach John Spini. 'Her power in her legs and ability to make changes as needed are her strengths. She will be an asset to us academically and athletically.'
Seaman will join the Sun Devil squad next fall. Like Rew, Seaman is a talented vaulter who was a Region IV runner-up on the event. Additionally, the Missouri native is a two-time Missouri state all-around champion.
'Sammie is an athlete we saw at our camp,' said Spini. 'She is very strong on vault and is a terrific tumbler. We expect to her to be a great asset on those two events. She will definitely fit the mold with athletes, the coaches and our program.'
The Sun Devils will kick off their season at the Lady Luck Invitational in Las Vegas on January 15.
