Bruins Sign Three to National Letters-of-Intent

UCLA head women's basketball coach Nikki Caldwell announced today the signing of high school standouts Rhema Gardner of Ayala HS in Chino Hills, CA, Thea Lemberger of Santa Monica,CA HS and Corrine Costa of Liberty HS in Discovery Bay, CA to national letters-of-intent. The trio will enter UCLA in the fall of 2010 as freshmen and become members of the 2010-11 Bruin women's basketball team.
Gardner, a 6-1 forward / guard is considered one of the top wing players in the state. She averaged 12.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game last season for Ayala High School. Gardner was named first-team All-CIF Southern Section and second-team All-State, junior class. She is the sister of current Bruin sophomore, Rebekah Gardner.
Lemberger, a 5-6 point guard, is a top-notch shooter and passer with a great knowledge of the game. She averaged 16.5 points, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game last season for Santa Monica High School. Her team advanced to the CIF Division 4 semifinals as a junior. She poured in a season-high 28 points in games last season versus Canyon Springs HS and Marlborough HS. She connected on 57 of her 142 (.401) three-point shot attempts in 2008-09.
Costa, a 6-4 post player, attends Liberty High School in Discovery Bay, CA which is located approximately 60 miles from San Francisco. Last season as a prep junior, she averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 blocks and 8.8 rebounds per game. Also a volleyball player, she is listed as one of the state's top post players and recorded a season-best 36 points in a game last season versus Lincoln High School.
