Meet The Cardinal: Katherine Sebastian

Nov. 19, 2009

Each week GoStanford.com will feature a Q&A with a different member of the 2009 Stanford Women's Volleyball team. This week get to know sophomore Katherine Sebastian.

My goals for this season are…
Win it all, and have fun and enjoy the entire journey.

Something about me that others would be surprised to hear is…
I love vampires, especially Edward Cullen.

I would love to trade places for a day with…
Oprah, Hermione Granger, or Bella Swan.

My favorite team to watch as a kid was…
Probably the Dallas Cowboys or Los Angeles Lakers. I grew up with two sports crazy brothers and I don’t remember a time when a sports game was not blasting on our television. And as anyone on our team can attest, I tend to scream at the TV when any sort of sports event is on.

The talent I’d most like to have is…
Oh gosh, so many. A talent? – I’d say being able to function on little sleep. As for a superpower – I want to be able to teleport. It would just be so useful in so many instances – when its cold outside and I’m far from my bed, I could just teleport there – that would be so nifty.

The best thing about Stanford is…
The ability to be outside all the time, and meeting all the wonderful individuals who go to school here – everyone has a story and is incredibly interesting in their own way.

My funniest teammate is…
Janet, and she doesn’t even have to try. She has an uncanny ability to make anybody laugh…but can be dangerous – at times when you’re not supposed to laugh, you do because she just brings it out of you. Pure sabotage Janet.

The sport I am the worst at is…
Swimming. I forget to breathe.

My favorite volleyball memory is…
Probably the feeling when I knew we were going to beat Texas in the Semifinals last year. I remember thinking, “Oh my gosh, we are really going to do this.” And we did. It still gives me chills thinking about it. Also, after the NCAA Championship Match, all the balloons and confetti fell on our side of the court. That was a really cool moment.

If I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to…
Italy. It is just the most beautiful place I have ever been.

The best advice I’ve received was…
'Success doesn't come to you... you go to it.' and 'My life tomorrow will be the result of my attitude and the choices I make today.' -My mom.
