Nov. 19, 2009
HOUSTON - The Oregon State women's basketball team lost its 2009-10 road opener, dropping a 49-32 decision to host Houston Thursday night at Hofheinz Pavilion.
With the loss, the Beavers dropped to 1-1 on the year while Houston, which had its home opener Thursday night, improved to 3-0.
Tilleman also led the Beavers with eight rebounds, equaling her total from Oregon State's season-opening win over Cal Poly. All told, the Beavers grabbed 42 boards compared to Houston's 46.
Both teams shot less than 35 percent from the field. OSU finished the game at a 27.3 clip from the field, while Houston posted a 32.8 percent mark.
OSU had nine steals and two blocks while Houston finished with 11 steals and five blocks.
Courtney Taylor led Houston with a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 18 rebounds. Porche Landry led the Cougars in scoring with 15 points.
Oregon State began the second half on an 8-0 run through the first four minutes until the first media break. The Beavers hit on four of their first eight shots in the half, including two by Tilleman, while Houston was 0-for-5 during that stretch.
The 8-0 run pulled the Beavers into a 23-point tie with the Cougars.
Houston, however, was able to go on an 11-0 run before Haiden Palmer sank a layup with 12:16 on the clock to get OSU within nine, 34-25.
Neither team controlled the first half, evidenced by Houston's 23-15 lead going into the locker rooms. OSU shot 21.2 percent while the Cougars posted a 34.5 percent clip. Both teams nailed one three-pointer in the half, with Houston's Roxana Button knocking one down with 33 seconds remaining. Kennedy hit the Beavers' three-pointer with six seconds left.
Kennedy led OSU with five first-half points. Landry paced Houston with 10.
