Season Bests Set in Final Day of Toshiba Classic

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Oregon State women's swimming team finished competition at the Toshiba Classic Saturday hosted by UC San Diego at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.
Saturday's competition marked the final day of the three day event that played host to some of the best competition on the west coast if not the country. There were 18 events spread out over three days with the final five coming Saturday.
The teams competed in the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay.
The best finish of the day for the Beavers came as a 14th place finish in the 400 freestyle relay to the team of Lisa Chewning, Carrie Kelsey, Rachel Polack, and Ashley Kerekanich with a time of 3:32.09. The 14th place finish earned the team 26 points with Oregon State finishing with 131 total points over the three days.
Saturday started off with the 1650 freestyle where Amy Herbst finished in 45th place with a time of 18:18.06.
Kerekanich (51.97) and Chewning (52:06) finished 28th and 29th respectively in the 100 freestyle final which were both season bests. Kerekanich's time is also here career best and places her 10th on the all-time list at Oregon State for the event.
Chewning also set a season best in the 200 breaststroke with at finals time of 2:24.45.
Oregon State next hits the pool at the US Short Course Nationals in Federal Way, Wash. Dec. 3-5.
