Arizona Women's BasketballArizona vs. Ole MissNovember 23, 2009Head Coach Niya Butts
'A win is a win and I will take that any way I can get it. It definitely was not our best game, but we came out on top. One thing, other than the win of course, which I'll take, is that we took better care of the ball today. We had nine turnovers in the first half, which isn't good, but we made some adjustments and only had five in the second half. Fourteen turnovers compared to 27 in our last game is definitely an improvement.'
'Most important for today, is that we won. Wins give us confidence, which is very important.'
'I don't think we executed the ball well at all, we definitely need to improve on that, but not turning the ball over as much really helped up out today.'
'We did do better on defense today, but I don't think we finished very well. We allowed twenty offensive rebounds, and thankfully, Ole Miss didn't capitalize on a lot of their missed opportunities. I'm not alarmed yet, but we need to improve before we head back on the road.'
'I think our confidence was shaken a little bit after our last loss. We started off with a very strong stretch, then got shaken a bit, and haven't completely come back from it. We are putting too much pressure on executing the perfect play and getting the perfect shot, and we just need to relax and let it flow. The time of the match doesn't matter. We just have to come out and play no matter what time it's scheduled. It definitely can be difficult, but it's one thing that just has to happen. It's all about how we come out and execute.'
'After our last loss, we definitely could have folded when the game got tight, but I'm glad we were able to pull through. It's a very good sign. We had some really good plays late in the game, with Ify's big rebounds and Davellyn's two big free throws. She was able to hit them under pressure, and it's great to see a freshman be able to do that.'
On No. 12 Brooke Jackson'Brooke definitely bounced back today, compared to the game against San Diego State. She hit her shots and stopped passing up opportunities for shots.'
No. 0 Davellyn Whyte
On improvements from loss to San Diego State'We looked better today. It's still not to our potential, but we're getting there.'
On mental focus'We need to focus in a little more to hit our potential, but it was there enough for the win today.'
On challenge of playing at 11:00am after playing Saturday night on the road'I think it was good because everyone wanted to turn around and win the next game we played. Everyone's mentality was better today.'
On rebounding improvements'Coach told us the numbers from the game Saturday at practice and it's not what you wanted. We need to focus on rebounding and boxing out. That's our goal.'
No. 12 Brooke Jackson
On improvements from loss to San Diego State'We were playing more together today. Against San Diego State, I don't really know what happened. It was kind of a blur.'
On mental focus'We did have some let-ups and we went in spurts with our focus today.'
On challenge of playing at 11:00am'It was a pretty good challenge. Our legs were a little dead from traveling and everything, but we just had to fight through that and Coach Butts helped push us.'
On holding off Ole Miss at the end of the game'I think we had better poise. We finally started to relax more and play as a team.'
