Nov. 23, 2009
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Washington State University senior Lisa Egami closed out the season at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., Monday, Nov. 23. The lone WSU harrier finished the 6,000m race in 169th place with a time of 21 minutes, 49.9 seconds at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.
'Training had been going well and I felt good going into the race, but I don't know what happened,' senior Lisa Egami said. 'Overall, I was pretty disappointed in my performance today. It wasn't what I wanted.'
Egami was the first Cougar women's cross country runner to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championships since Haley Paul took 14th place in 2005.
'I felt flat out there and didn't have any spring in my step,' Egami stated. 'I felt like I was working so hard and runners were just flying by me like I was standing still.'
Villanova won the 31-team competition with 86 points while Illinois senior Angela Bizzarri was the individual champion in a time of 19:46.8.
