Nov. 23, 2009
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Junior forward/center Nicole Canepa of OREGON was named Pac-10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 17-23, commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Canepa has had a fast start to the season, breaking her single-game career scoring high in back-to-back games, while helping the Ducks get out to a 2-0 start. In the first game of the season, an 86-48 win over Eastern Washington, Canepa, who hails from San Francisco, Calif., set a career high with 17 points off the bench and added 10 rebounds to post the second double-double of her career.
Oregon next handed Montana an 86-81 home loss, only the third in three years for the Grizzlies, with Canepa helping to solidify the game for the Ducks with six of her team-leading 18 points coming in the final 3:47 of the game. She also tallied nine rebounds to go with her career-high 18 points.
This is the first career Pac-10 Player of the Week selection for Canepa and the 33rd selection all-time for Oregon.
