Mike Nixon Named ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-American

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University senior linebacker Mike Nixon has been named a First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Nixon is the first Sun Devil to earn Academic All-American honors since Zach Miller was named to the Second Team in 2006.

Nixon is the only Sun Devil to ever be named First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII three times in his career. He carries a 4.07 GPA in Political Science and was the only Pac-10 representative on the First Team. The Phoenix native is a team co-captain and leads the team with 65 tackles, including six for loss. He has also intercepted three passes, returning one for a touchdown, blocked a punt and forced three fumbles. Nixon was named Academic All-Pac-10 in each of the past two seasons.
