UCLA Defeats Princeton, 69-59

Los Angeles, Calif. - UCLA used a pair of double-doubles from freshman Markel Walker and senior Moniquee Alexander to hand previously undefeated Princeton its first loss of the year, 69-59, on Wednesday evening in Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA outscored the Tigers 10-2 early in the second half to turn a 35-31 deficit into a 41-37 lead at the 14:52 mark. Walker contributed four points, and junior guard Darxia Morris added six points during the Bruin run. The Bruins extended the margin up to as many as eight points, 51-43, with 7:27 to play.
Princeton battled back and cut the lead to three points, 60-57, after a three-pointer by Addie Micir with 3:09 remaining, but UCLA answered with a long-distance three from Erica Tukiainen, and Princeton never got closer than four from that point on. Tukiainen hit another three-pointer with 1:19 to play to put UCLA up by nine, 68-59. The Bruins held Princeton scoreless over the last 2:12 of the contest, and a Walker free throw provided the final margin
Princeton raced out to an early 8-2 lead, thanks in large part to three Bruin turnovers, and led by as many as seven, 17-10, after a three-pointer by Micir with 12:53 left in the first half. UCLA used a 12-2 run to take over the lead, 22-19, with Walker scoring half of the team's points in the run. The Tigers used a 12-2 run of their own to move ahead, 31-24, with 2:30 left in the half. UCLA scored the last five points of the half to trail by two, 31-29, at the break.
Alexander finished with a career-high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and added 11 rebounds to record her first career double-double. Walker had a double-double for the second time this season, with a team-high and season-best 17 points, in addition to 11 rebounds. Also scoring in double-figures were Morris and Tukiainen with 10 points apiece.
The Bruins (4-1) will travel to Tennessee, UCLA head coach Nikki Caldwell's alma mater, and play the sixth-ranked Lady Vols on Saturday at 3 p.m. Eastern/Noon Pacific time. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports South and replayed in the Los Angeles area at 6 p.m. on Nov. 29 on Prime Ticket. Princeton (3-1) will face UC Irvine on Friday.The next Bruin home contest is on Dec. 18, when Texas Tech will visit Pauley Pavilion in a game scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
Note: At halftime, fourth-year UCLA student Carrissa Hsieh won the Sport Chalet SuperShot. She made a free throw, layup, three -pointer and halfcourt shot within 30 seconds to win books and tuition for an academic year.
