Post game quotes vs Southern - Nov. 28, 2009

Head coach Joanne Boyle
'I am pleased with the second half, but obviously not with how we came out to start the game. We were shooting 50 percent from the freethrow line and had 15 turnovers. At halftime, we got more focused and they realized it just wasn't going to be given to them. That is when the game really started.'
'When you play in a tournament, especially when you fly west coast to east coast, you really have to save your legs. You can't take any chances, you still have to get in a rhythm and get in a flow, but once we did that, we could get some other kids some minutes.'
'We just weren't getting the ball below the freethrow line. We weren't getting anyone in the short corner. They were staying all bunched up in the middle. At halftime, we made an adjustment and really got that guard running short corner to get some jump shots on the baseline. I was happy they adjusted.'
On whether or not her players were looking past Southern and concentrating on Ohio State
'We tried to not have our players look past Southern to Ohio State. We did focus on Ohio State earlier in the week, but once we got here, we closed that and looked only at this game. I think the tendency is that sometimes people do that. But we are a young team. With us, nothing is a given. Whether we are playing Saint Mary's or Baylor, we don't have the opportunity to look ahead. We're just not that experienced right now.'
On freshman guard Eliza Pierre's steals
'Eliza is a ridiculous defender. That's her specialty. To me, she changed the game a little bit. Gave us a little bit of breathing room and I think we got a layup or two. It allowed us to get the lid off the basket.'
