Eight Teams To Participate in 2009 Volleyball NCAA Tournament

STANFORD captured its 13th Pac-10 title and gained the Pac-10's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament as the No. 4 seed. Joining the Cardinal in the NCAA Tournament are seven additional Pac-10 teams - No. 6 seed WASHINGTON, No. 8 seed UCLA, No. 9 seed CALIFORNIA, No. 14 seed OREGON, ARIZONA, USC and WASHINGTON STATE... The eight teamsparticipating in the NCAA Tournament equals a Pac-10 record set in 2002... It's the ninth consecutive year in which the Pac-10 has sent at least six teams into the NCAA Tournament, and 18th overall... No other conference had more than six teams selected to play in the NCAA Tournament... The Pac-10 has won five of the last eight NCAA titles. Washington won it all in 2005, Stanford claimed titles in 2001 and 2004, while USC captured titles in 2002 and 2003. Over the last eight years of the NCAA Tournament, the Pac-10 has compiled an impressive 139-46 (.751) record. Toss out the 12 postseason matches in which Pac-10 teams faced each other and the league's NCAA Tournament record against non-conference foes stands at 127-34 (.789) ... Overall, the Pac-10 has won 13 NCAA titles. The league's overall record against non-conference opponents in NCAA Tournament play is 264-99 (.727) ... Over the last seven years, the Pac-10 is 43-2 (.956) in the first round, and 95-11 (.896) in opening round matches 
since 1990.
