Stanford's Kayla Pedersen Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior forward Kayla Pedersen, following a superb weekend highlighted by her scoring a career-high 30 points in Sunday's 105-74 victory over Gonzaga, was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Over Stanford's weekend victories over Utah and Gonzaga, Pedersen averaged 24.0 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 47.1 percent (16-for-34) from the field and 80.0 percent (12-for-15) from the free-throw line.
Pedersen set a new career best Sunday with 30 points against Gonzaga, while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. The Fountain Hills, Ariz. native shot 50.0 percent (9-for-18) from the field, including hitting 3-of-5 attempts from behind the arc, and was 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. Defensively, Pedersen also made a pair of steals.
In Friday's 60-41 win against Utah, Pedersen led the Cardinal with her second double-double of the year, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She completed a fine all-around effort with three assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
Monday's honor marks the second time in Pedersen's career that she has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week, last winning the award on March 2, 2009.
For the season, it is the second time in three weeks that a Stanford player has been honored by the conference. Sophomore forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike earned the first weekly honor of 2009-10 on Nov. 16.
