WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD junior forward Kayla Pedersen was named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 9-16, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Kayla Pedersen (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) led the No. 2-ranked Cardinal to a pair of wins at home over Utah and Gonzaga last week, averaging 24.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting better than 47 percent from the field.
Pedersen, who was also the team's leading scorer in both games, recorded her second double-double of the season against the Utes last Friday, netting 18 points with 12 rebounds. She surpassed the 1,000-point career mark after scoring a career-high 30 points against the Zags on Sunday. She was 9-for-18 from the field against Gonzaga, knocking down 3-of-5 three-point attempts, while also going 9-for-11 from the charity stripe. Pedersen also added seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in that game.
It is the 70th all-time Pac-10 Player of the Week selection for Stanford and Pedersen's second of her career.
Stanford is in the midst of a five-game homestand and hosts three-straight ranked opponents, but will take the week off before facing one of the toughest stretches of the season. The Cardinal return to action on Dec. 13 against No. 21 DePaul, with No. 10/12 Duke visiting on Dec. 15 and No. 6/5 Tennessee arriving on Dec. 19.
