Nov. 30, 2009
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Oregon State women's soccer team placed 10 players on the Pac-10 Conference All-Academic squad the league office announced on Monday. Ashley Wood earned first-team honors for Oregon State as Rachael Axon picked up second-team honors.
Wood, who carries a 3.80 GPA in biology, earns her second academic all-conference honor after earning second-team honors in 2007. The senior goalkeeper finished the season with a 7-2-0 mark and a 0.77 goals against average.
Axon, who holds a 3.63 GPA in education, also earns her second all-academic nod after earning second-team honors as a junior. The senior started in every game for the Beavers and earned first-team all-conference honors as a midfielder.
Colleen Boyd, Kristen Carmichael, Ashley Folsom, Brittany Galindo and Ashley Seal round out the Oregon State selection on the squads as the sophomores were named to the honorable mention squad for the first time in their careers.
The 10 selections to the academic all-conference team marked the second most in school history and the most since 11 players were named to the team following the 2004 season.
Oregon State recently wrapped up its best season in program history as the Beavers advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship and finished the year with a mark of 14-8-1. The squad will be honored at halftime of the Oregon State men's basketball game on Friday, Dec. 4.
