GymDawg Journal: Karen Cain
Dec. 3, 2009
Hi Dawg Fans!
I know that this seems to be a theme with us GymDawgs, but I can't believe that preseason has gone by so fast! Now that we are in December, we are all getting ready for season and able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. As Haley told you all, our intra-squad in the gym exposed some weaknesses that we need to focus on and areas for improvement. That said, it provided good information about our teammates and how they perform under pressure. College gymnastics is all about helping your teammates to be the very best gymnasts they can be and experiences such as this really help us learn how we can push and encourage each other to be better. If we continue to improve with every practice, then there is no limit to what we will be able to accomplish this season.
After the break, everyone seemed revived. I think after working so hard all preseason it was a very well-deserved rest. My family did the traditional Thanksgiving meal and it was great to get to see everyone. My sister flew in from Boston where she is a freshman at MIT and we did our traditional shopping trip on Friday. Going back to Texas is always nice because I get to dig my shorts out of the bottom of my closet! The weather was perfect for my trip: sunny and low 70's. After Thanksgiving dinner, my family loaded up and headed out to the Christmas tree farm. We got to pick out our very own tree and saw it down! Our seven-and-a-half-foot tree, which looked so small out in the field, is now taking up the majority of our front living room. All and all, it was a great break.
Yesterday we came back to the gym strong and everyone's attitude and effort was really good. I think that we are on a good path to a successful season. So far we have done a great job of staying positive and supportive towards our teammates. I am so thankful to be part of team, who truly cares about each other.
I look forward to seeing you all on December 11th at 7 p.m. in the Bank of America Arena for our intra-squad. It should be lots of fun!
Thanks for all your support and GO DAWGS!
