Golden Bears Lasso Lipscomb in First-Round Sweep
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The ninth-seeded California volleyball team (19-10, 11-7 Pac-10) eliminated Lipscomb (28-4, 20-0 Atlantic Sun) in three sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-9) on Friday, Dec. 4, in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship at St. John Arena. The Golden Bears were led by senior outside hitter Hana Cutura's 20 kills (1e, 36att, .528); while sophomore outside hitter Tarah Murrey

Volleyball Falls to No. 20 Northern Iowa in NCAA First Round
 LINCOLN, Neb. -- In its first post-season competition since 2002, the Washington State volleyball team ended its season with a 26-24, 25-21, 25-20 loss to No. 20 Northern Iowa in the first round match of the NCAA Championship tournament at the Nebraska University Coliseum Friday afternoon. Rams Upset Huskies In NCAA Second Round


FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The sixth-seeded Husky volleyball squad was off its game tonight, and in the NCAA Championships, one off-night is all it takes, as Washington was upended in the second round by Colorado State, 25-16, 25-22, 21-25, 25-19. The Rams had the home court advantage at Moby Arena in front of 2,750 fans and put Washington in a 2-0 hole for the first time all year. The Huskies fought to force a fourth set, but had trouble sustaining runs all night, and ended the season with a 24-6 record. [Read more]

Ailes Becomes Career Leader As Stanford Downs Long Island In NCAA First Round
The fourth-seeded Stanford women's volleyball team blanked Long Island University, 25-11, 25-15, 25-10, in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament, Friday, at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal improved to 22-7 overall, while the Blackbirds end their season with a 21-14 overall record. [Read more]

USC Sweeps Oklahoma In First Round Of NCAA Tournament
LOS ANGELES -- Sophomore outside hitter Alex Jupiter (Hermosa Beach/Redondo Union HS) recorded 23 kills Friday as the No. 15-ranked USC Women of Troy swept the Oklahoma Sooners, 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-20), in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament at the Galen Center. Sophomore middle blocker Lauren Williams
had 10 kills without an error for a .714 night (10-0-14) and two blocks. [Read more]

Eighth-Seeded UCLA Exacts its Revenge With Sweep of Long Beach State
LOS ANGELES - The eighth-seeded Bruins were swept in their regular-season match with Long Beach State, but UCLA turned the tables on Friday at Pauley Pavilion in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, sweeping the 49ers, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16. Senior Kaitlin Sather and junior Dicey McGraw each led the Bruins with a match-high 12 kills. [Read more]
