Swimming in Sixth at Short Course Nationals

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - After the first day of competition at the 2009 AT&T Short Course National Championships in Federal Way, Wash., the Oregon State women's swimming team is tied for sixth place with 62 points.
The highest point totaling event of the day was the first one off the blocks, the 200y freestyle relay in which the Beavers finished in seventh place earning 24 points.
The 200y freestyle relay team which was comprised of Ashley Kerekanich, Jenni Dole, Brittney Iverson, and Anna Crandall posted a finals time of 1:34.305. They posted a slightly better time of 1:34.23 in the preliminary round.
The second event of the day featured senior Kate Hagan who swam her season best time of 4:57.37 in the 500y freestyle preliminaries. It beat her previous season best by nearly nine seconds.
Iverson and Anna Heller both swam season best times in the 200y individual medley with preliminary times of 2:02.86 and 2:03.89 respectively.
Crandall set a season best in the 50y freestyle with a preliminary time of 23.67
The Beavers will be back in the pool Friday when they participate in the second day of the championships with 200y medley relay, 400y individual medley, 100y butterfly, 200y freestyle, 100y breaststroke, 100y backstroke, and the 800 freestyle relay.
