Gerhart Highlights Pac-10 Honors with Player of the Year Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Senior running back Toby Gerhart was named the Pacific-10 Conference's Offensive Player of the Year while offensive lineman Chris Marinelli and kick off return specialist Chris Owusu also earned first team all-conference honors, it was announced today by the Pac-10 Office.
Stanford had a total of 16 players earn all-conference recognition, including three first team selections, two second team picks and 11
honorable mention selections.
Gerhart set a new single-season Stanford and Pac-10 records for rushing yards (1,736) and rushing touchdowns (26). He is averaging 144.7 yards per game, which ranks second nationally while his 13.3 points per game leads the nation.
Gerhart is the third Stanford Cardinal to be named Offensive Player of the Year, joining Brad Muster (1986) and Troy Walters (1999). Gerhart was a second team selection last year.
Marinelli, one of six Stanford offensive linemen honored on the Pac-10 all-conference team, helped set a new school-record for rushing with 2692 yards, breaking the 1949 record of 2481 yards. The offensive line has allowed a Pac-10 low six sacks on the year, which is the second lowest total in the nation.
Owusu returned three kickoffs for touchdowns for the season and leads the conference with 32.5 yards per kickoff return. He returned a kickoff of at least 40 yards against eight of 12 opponents this season.
Senior tight end Jim Dray and center Chase Beeler were selected to the second team, while 11 players were honorable mention picks, including: OL David DeCastro, DT Sione Fua, SS Delano Howell, DE Thomas Keiser, QB Andrew Luck, FB Owen Marecic, OT Jonathan Marin, OG Andrew Phillips, MLB Clinton Snyder, WR Ryan Whalen and PK Nate Whitaker.
For Marecic, it is the third time he has been named honorable mention. Keiser was named honorable menion for the second time, posting a team-high 9.0 sacks and 14.5 tackles for a loss of 83 yards.
Major award winners, selected by the conference's coaches included: UCLA's Brian Price as the Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year, Oregon's LaMichael James as the Offensive Freshman of the Year, Arizona State's Vontaze Burfict as the Defensive Freshman of the Year and Rose Bowl bound and Oregon's Chip Kelly as the Coach of the Year.
Gerhart, Marecic, Dray and Whalen were favorite targets for Luck, racking up a school-record 434 points. Whitaker did not miss an extra point durinthe regular season, and hit field goals of 54, 48 and 47 yards.
