'Cats to Host Preseason Meet
Dec. 9, 2009
TUCSON - The UA men's and women's track and field teams will get a kick start to the season Saturday as they host the annual All-Comers Meet at Drachman Stadium.
The meet, which essentially serves as a Red-Blue scrimmage of sorts, pits the members of the squad against each other in a friendly competition that counts for nothing but practice and bragging rights as well as giving the coaches an idea of where their athletes stand heading into the indoor season beginning in January.
The meet is formatted so that team captains take part in a draft, picking members of the team to try and form the most complete squad possible. They will compete as the Red, White abd Blue squads. Points will be awarded to the first two athletes from each respective team per each event and use standard track and field scoring.
The meet also allows anyone willing to test their skills on the track to come out and compete - hence the 'All-Comers' title.
Events will kick off at 9 a.m. and continue through noon.
