Stanford's Godsoe and Smit Named Pac-10 November Swimmers of the Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.- STANFORD seniors Eugene Godsoe and Julia Smit have been named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Month for November, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Godsoe, who hails from Greensboro, N.C. set the the nation's second-fastest 100 backstroke time of 46.67, an NCAA 'A' qualifying that he set at the Toshiba Cup. Godsoe was a key piece for the Cardinal in the Toshiba Cup where he helped lead the 400 medley relay team to a 'B' standard time of 3:12.69, which is also the fastest time nationally this season. At Cal's Triple Distance meet, Godsoe won the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke races, with times of 22.58, 48.26 and 1:47.00, respectively.
This is the second monthly honor for Godsoe and the seventh overall for Stanford
Smit was equally as impressive on the women's side for the Cardinal, setting the national bar with the fastest times in the 200 IM (1:55.45), 400 IM (4:03.31) and currently ranks third in the 200 backstroke (1:52.83), all of which are NCAA 'A' qualifying times. In November, she also set the then-sixth fastest 50 freestyle time of 22.35 and the then-third fastest 100 freestyle time of 48.90. Smit, a senior from Mt. Sinai, N.Y., broke an 11-year old school-record in the 200 backstroke at the Toshiba Cup with a time of 1:52.83. She also played a key role in setting the nation's fastest 200 freestyle relay time of 1:29.22, fifth-fastest 800 freestyle relay time of 7:08.70 and the third-fastest 400 freestyle relay time of 3:17.28. Smit led the Cardinal to victory over Michigan and Florida, both NCAA participants last season.
This is the third monthly honor for Smit, the second-most of any Pac-10 women's swimmer all-time and the sixth overall award for the Cardinal.
