Taylor Mays Named Walter Camp All-American
Dec. 10, 2009
Senior safety Taylor Mays was named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation All-American first team, the nation's oldest All-America team.
He was a semifinalist for the 2009 Thorpe Award, Bednarik Award and Lott Trophy and made the 2009 All-Pac-10 first team (for the second consecutive year).
With a USC-best 91 tackles in 2009, Mays is on pace to be just the fifth defensive back (and the first since Troy Polamalu in 2001) to lead the Trojans in tackles in a season since records were kept in 1954. His 91 stops are the most by a Trojan since linebacker Lofa Tatupu's 104 in 2004.
In his career, Mays has 271 tackles and 5 interceptions.
The Walter Camp All-America team is selected by the head coaches and sports informationdirectors of the 119 Football Bowl Subdivision schools.
The 2009 Walter Camp Player of the Year and members of the All-America team will behonored at the organization's national awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven, Ct.
