Four Bruins Selected To Participate In MLS Player Combine

UCLA seniors David Estrada, Kyle Nakazawa, Brian Perk and Michael Stephens have been invited to participate in the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine in January. UCLA leads all schools with four invited players. In addition, Bruin head coach Jorge Salcedo will be coaching Team Jabulani at the commbine.
The annual MLS Player Combine will be held at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, FL from Jan. 8-12.
Estrada (Salinas, CA) finished his career with 22 goals, 14 assists and 58 points. In 2009, he earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors and tied for the team in lead in assists with seven and ranked second in total points with 13. The 2006 Soccer America National Freshman of the Year was an All-Pac-10 honoree each of his four years.
Nakazawa (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) is a semifinalist for the M.A.C. Hermman Trophy and a first-team All-American and All-Pac-10 performer. He led the Bruins this season with 12 goals and 31 points and tied for the team lead in assists with seven. He finished his career with 20 goals, 26 assists and 66 points.
Perk (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) earned second-team All-America and first-team All-Pac-10 honors this season after compiling a 0.87 goals against average with four shutouts and 53 saves. His 241 career saves rank him fourth on UCLA's all-time list.
Stephens (Naperville, IL) wrapped up his career with 11 goals, 20 assists and 42 points. He tied for the team lead in assists for the second-straight season with seven. The 2008 Pac-10 Player of the Year earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors during his last two seasons.
The coaching and management staffs of all 16 MLS teams will be in attendance to scout talent at the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine, which concludes two days before the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. At the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, considered one of the best talent pools in SuperDraft history, 42 of the 60 players drafted attended the 2009 adidas MLS Player Combine; 10 combine players were selected in the first round. The 2010 MLS SuperDraft will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 in Philadelphia.
The initial player list was determined by a select panel of Division I college coaches representing all conferences who nominated and voted for players in conjunction with MLS coaches. Youth players from the Generation adidas program will join additional collegiate players from NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA schools and Division I alternates to finalize the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine. The final player list and team assignments will be announced in the coming weeks.
UCLA had a league-high 18 players on MLS rosters in 2009 and has produced a total of 50 MLS players, easily the most by any collegiate institution.
