Stanford's Nnemkadi Ogwumike Takes Home Second Pac-10 Player of the Week Honor
Dec. 14, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - For second time in the span of a month, Stanford forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Ogwumike claimed the honor with a 24-point, six-rebound effort in No. 2/2 Stanford's 96-60 victory over DePaul Sunday afternoon.
The honor is also the second of Ogwumike's career, and marks the third time this season that a Cardinal player has claimed the award.
Following a two-week break for final exams, Ogwumike picked up right where she had left off on Nov. 29 against Gonzaga, following up her career-high 29 points in that contest with a game-high 24 against DePaul. The 24 points marked Ogwumike's fourth 20-point performance in seven games this season, and pushed her scoring average to a Pac-10-leading 20.1 points per game. The Cypress, Texas native also shot 69.2 percent (9-for-13) from the floor, grabbed six rebounds and made a pair of steals in the victory.
In addition to leading the Pac-10 with 20.1 points per game, Ogwumike also ranks second in the conference with a 63.9-percent shooting mark and fifth with 8.7 rebounds per game.
Ogwumike and the Cardinal continue this week's action with the final two games of a season-long five-game home stand, taking on No. 7/10 Duke Tuesday night at 7 p.m. then closing things out with an 11:30 a.m. tilt against No. 3/3 Tennessee Saturday, Dec. 19 that will be televised on FSN/Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.
