Vote For Husky Softball For Sports Star Of The Year
Dec. 16, 2009
SEATTLE - It was a banner year for the Huskies in 2009, and the Seattle Sports Commission along with the Seattle Children's Hospital have taken note.
Several of Washington's top student-athletes were nominated for the 75th Annual Sports Star Award, given as an honor to local amateur and professional athletes. Included in the prestigious group was the Husky softball team, which was nominated for Female Sports Star of the Year along with the FSN/DIRECTTV Sports Play of the Year for winning the 2009 National Championship.
Fans can vote for the Husky softball team in each of these categories - along with other Husky athletes - by going to www.seattlesports.org.
Also nominated from Washington were quarterback Jake Locker, men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar, men's golfer Nick Taylor and the Washington men's varsity eight crew team for the Male Sports Star of the Year and cross country's Kendra Schaaf and volleyball's Tamari Miyashiro for Female Sports Star of the Year.
Current Husky Danielle Lawrie was named the PI's Sports Star of the Year in 2007.
Originally created by the Royal Brougham and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 1935, the award is presented in an end-of-the-year banquet in downtown Seattle.
Tickets to attend the event are available to the public for $75 and can be purchased at benaroyahall.org or by calling 206-215-4747.
