Wise a Candidate for Cousy Award

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball player Nic Wise has been selected as a candidate for the 2010 Bob Cousy Award, announced today by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The list is comprised of 72 student-athletes in all three NCAA divisions, including 50 from Division I, who are vying for the honor of the nation's top point guard. Wise is one of two Pac-10 players on the list.
Wise, a 5-foot-10, 177-pound, senior guard from Houston, Texas, is averaging 16.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in nine appearances this year. He shoots 42.2 percent (46-of-109) from the field, including 37.2 percent (16-of-43) from behind the arc, to go with 94.7 percent (36-of-38) from the free throw line.
Wise ranks sixth among Pac-10 players in scoring, fourth in assists and seventh in assist:turnover ratio (2.0). To date, he has scored in double figures seven times, while collected five or more rebounds and assists three and four times, respectively. Wise is just 18 points shy of 1,000 for his career.
The list of candidates will be pared down to 20 on January 1, 2010, and to 10 on Feb. 1 before the final five candidates are announced on March 1. Appointed by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the award's voting committee includes media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
Now in its seventh year, the winner will of the Bob Cousy Award will be announced on Monday, April 5, as part of the Final Four festivities in Indianapolis.
