Cougar Women Close Nonconference Schedule in Reno
Dec. 21, 2009
The Washington State women's basketball team (5-5) will play its final game of 2009 - and the final nonconference regular-season game of the 2009-10 season - against Nevada (5-5) Tuesday (Dec. 22) in Reno, Nev. Tip-off against the Wolf Pack is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center.
The Cougars are coming off a 74-57 victory over San Francisco in the Tri-Cities Cougar Classic sponsored by Gesa Credit Union. WSU has won three of its last four games, while Nevada has lost four of its last five, including each of its last three.
Fans can listen to the game live on KQQQ 1150 AM and on translator 105.3 FM in Pullman/Moscow, or at www.wsucougars.com. Steve Grubbs has the call live from Reno.
WSU AGAINST THE WAC
The Cougars are 53-50 all-time against schools currently in the Western Athletic Conference, including a record of 21-28 on the road. WSU has won seven of its last 10 games played against the WAC, and five of the last six on its opponents' home courts.
WINNING OUT OF CONFERENCE
The Cougars are also looking to post their second-straight winning record in nonconference play. WSU hasn't posted a winning nonconference record in back-to-back seasons in more than a decade (1997-98 and 1998-99).
WSU will be looking to even the all-time series with Nevada, as the Cougars currently trail 1-2. WSU won the last game played 67-52, Dec. 19, 1997, after Nevada won the first two. All three previous meetings were played away from Pullman, though only two of the meetings were played in Reno. WSU's 1997 game against the Wolf Pack was in the opening round of the Kona Classic in Hilo, Hawaii.
DAUGHERTY NEARING 600
WSU's meeting against Nevada will be the 598th game of June Daugherty's head coaching career. Daugherty will reach 600 games as a head coach against Oregon (Jan. 3).
