DePaul Leads Strong USC Effort At Winter Sectionals

Junior Lyndsay DePaul won a pair of races while sophomores Jeff Daniels and Patrick White and freshmen Haley Anderson and Alex Lendrum also posted wins during a strong Trojan showing at the 2009 California-Speedo Winter Sectionals, Friday through Tuesday (Dec. 18-22) in Long Beach, Calif.

Numerous Trojans recorded national qualifying times (times noted on the results link) and bolstered their NCAA cuts as well.

DePaul won the 200y fly in an NCAA `A' cut of 1:54.55 and took the 200y IM in 1:58.25, also a `B' cut. She also was second in the 200y free (1:46.72, `B' cut), fourth in the 200y breast (2:16.05, `B' cut) and sixth in the 200y back (1:59.95).

Anderson won the 1000y free in 9:44.46 and was eighth in the 200y free (1:50.22).

Lendrum won the 200y back in 1:45.18, an NCAA `B' cut and was second in the 200y fly (1:47.38, `B' cut). Josh Joiner was third in the 200y fly (1:47.61), among four Trojan finalists in the event.

Daniels took the 100y free in 44.40 while White won the 200y free in 1:36.72, a `B' cut. He was also third in the 100y free (44.59). Junior Emmett Walling was fourth in the 100y free (44.60) and sophomore Jack Ostler was eighth (46.51).

Senior co-captain James Martin was second in the 400y IM (3:49.23, `B' cut) and the 200y back (1:46.42) and was fourth in the 200y breast. Senior Zoltan Povazsay (1:46.90) was also fourth in the 200y back (1:46.90) while junior Shane Tusup was seventh (1:50.66).

Junior Dillon Connolly was third in the 200y breast (1:59.68) and was fourth in the 200y free (1:39.45).

Freshman Yumi So was third in the 200y fly (1:57.90, `B' cut), freshman Jessica Schmitt was third in the 400y IM (4:18.05, `B' cut) and freshman Christel Simms was fourth in the 100y free (50.71).
