BRUIN INJURY REPORT
UCLA senior forward James Keefe suffered a dislocated left shoulder midway through the first half of the Bruins' 100-68 home win over New Mexico State on Dec. 15. He was forced to miss practice and the last three games due to the injury. He returned to practice for the first time on Dec. 29 and is listed as probable for the Bruins' Pac-10 opener against Arizona State (Dec. 31).
SERIES VERSUS ARIZONA STATE
This is the 73rd meeting between UCLA and Arizona State with the Bruins leading the series 56-16 (.778). UCLA is 29-6 (.829) all-time against Arizona State at home. ASU won last year's matchup in Pauley, 61-58 in overtime. ASU jumped out to a 14-4 lead, but the Bruins fought back to trail 27-25 at the break. Michael Roll's jumper with 8:05 left in the game gave UCLA its largest lead of 11 points at 54-43. But that was the last time UCLA scored in regulation, as the Bruins missed the last eight shots down the stretch. James Harden's two free throws with 21 seconds to go sent the game into overtime. Harden scored the go-ahead basket with 35 ticks on the clock. Ben Howland is 10-6 all-time against ASU while Herb Sendek is 2-4 against UCLA.
UCLA IN PAC-10 OPENERS
UCLA is 21-10 (.677) in Pacific-10 Conference openers (since 1978-79). UCLA is 27-4 (.871) all-time in Pac-10 home openers and 17-14 (.548) in Pac-10 road openers. This is the third time the Bruins have opened Pac-10 play with Arizona State and the second time they have done so at home (the first was the 1984 Pac-10 opener, won by the Bruins 79-57). UCLA is 2-0 in openers against ASU. The Bruins haven't opened Pac-10 play with ASU since 1992, when UCLA posted an 83-62 win in Tempe, Ariz.
