Oregon's Dunigan Named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Jan. 4, 2010
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that OREGON sophomore center Michael Dunigan has been named the Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 28-Jan. 3.
A native of Chicago, Ill., Dunigan led the Ducks to a 3-0 mark last week that included wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, WASHINGTON STATE and an upset win over No. 17 WASHINGTON. For the week, Dunigan averaged 22.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 1.3 steals, while shooting 25-for-35 (71 percent) from the floor.
In Oregon’s 73-53 victory over the Golden Lions, Dunigan recorded career-highs with 26 points scored and 10 field goals made. In Thursday’s 91-89 double-overtime win over the Cougars, he scored 22 points, pulled down a then-career-high 12 rebounds and matched a career-high five blocks while shooting 8-for-11 (73 percent) from the field. In Saturday’s 90-79 upset over the Huskies, he scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, marking his third-straight game in which he scored 20 or more points. The win over Washington snapped the Huskies 18-game home winning streak and marked the first time since the 1999-2000 season that Oregon swept the Washington schools on the road.
For the season, Dunigan is averaging 12.3 points points per game, 5.8 rebounds per outing and 1.5 blocks per contest. He ranks fourth in the Conference in blocked shots.
This is the first weekly honor for Dunigan and Oregon’s 28th all-time Player of the Week.
Also Nominated: Kyle Fogg, ARIZ; Jerome Randle, CAL; Landry Fields, STAN; Isaiah Thomas, WASH.
