Women's Basketball Has Excellent Fall Term Academically
Jan. 4, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. -
The Oregon State women’s basketball team continued its excellence in the classroom during the fall as eight of the team’s 14 student-athletes earned grade point averages of 3.0 or better.
Additionally, two players, sophomore Kirsten Tilleman and freshman Kate Lanz, earned Oregon State Honor Roll honors by finishing with a term GPA of 3.5 or better and having at least 12 credit hours graded.
The Beavers have traditionally done well under head coach LaVonda Wagner since she arrived on the Corvallis campus prior to the 2005-06 season. Oregon State’s cumulative GPA, as a team, after the fall term, is 3.26.
Kirsten Tilleman was also featured as the everyday champion the week of Dec. 1. She talked about her successes in the classroom, about her major, natural resources, and what her experience has been like playing at Oregon State under coach Wagner. To read that Q&A, click here.
The Beavers are 9-3 overall this season and 1-1 in Pacific-10 Conference play. Oregon State is 5-2 since the start of December.
Oregon State currently ranks first in the Pac-10 and ninth in the nation in scoring defense by allowing just 51.4 points per game. OSU is also 13th nationally in rebounding margin at plus-10.1 per game.
The Beavers remain at home Saturday when Oregon State hosts Oregon in the Civil War. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. PT start at legendary Gill Coliseum and will be televised nationally on FSN. Jim Watson and Mary Murphy will serve as on-air talent for the game.
Tickets are still available for the game. Reserved tickets for individual women’s basketball games are $10, while general admission for adults is $7 and senior/youth is $5.
