Kim Hamilton Anthony Pens Memoir Unfavorable Odds
Jan. 5, 2010
UCLA Hall of Fame gymnast Kim Hamilton Anthony has written a memoir, Unfavorable Odds, and will have a book signing at UCLA's Jan. 9 gymnastics meet against Utah in Pauley Pavilion. The meet is scheduled to start at 4 pm. She will sign both before and after the meet.
Hamilton Anthony was a four-time NCAA Champion at UCLA, winning an unprecedented three consecutive titles on floor exercise from 1987-89 and also capturing the vault title in 1989. She also won a school-record seven NCAA Regional titles and captured four Pac-10 individual titles and six All-America honors. Prior to competing at UCLA, she was a U.S. National Team member from 1984-86. In 2000, she became only the second UCLA female gymnast to be inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.
She has maintained a successful post-gymnastics career as a sports commentator for ESPN and Fox Sports as is the host of the Miami-Dade TV show 'County Connection.' Hamilton Anthony is also an inspirational/motivational speaker and a chaplain for the Miami Dolphins Wives.
Hamilton Anthony's path to success was not an easy one. In her memoir, Unfavorable Odds, she shares her story of not only overcoming the unfavorable odds of being a 5-7 African-American gymnast from a low-income, urban community, but also the challenges she faced being surrounded by drugs and violence. It also chronicles her journey to escape the cycle of hopelessness that pervaded her everyday life and reveals the keys she used to overcome the obstacles she faced, in a way that anyone can apply to his or her own life.
'It is my desire to encourage and inspire others to persevere through life's difficulties, in order to find true purpose and lasting fulfillment,' said Hamilton Anthony.
Unfavorable Odds will be available at all major retailers on Feb. 2. You can also purchase the book in advance at UnfavorableOdds.com.
