UCLA Tennis Teams Nationally Ranked to Start the Season

LOS ANGELES - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its first national rankings of the 2010 season on Tuesday, and the UCLA men's tennis team checks in at No. 4, followed by the Bruin women at No. 12.
With its No. 4 ranking, the UCLA men are up a spot from last year's final national ranking of No. 5. USC is ranked No. 1 to start the year, followed by Virginia, Ohio State, UCLA and Tennessee. Singles and doubles rankings were also released on Tuesday. In singles, Amit Inbar is UCLA's highest-ranked player at No. 94. He is followed by Nick Meister at No. 118. The Bruins have one doubles team ranked, with Matt Brooklyn and Kallim Stewart checking in at No. 36.

At No. 12 to start the year, the UCLA women match their final national ranking of 2009. Defending national champion Duke begins the season at the nation's top-ranked team. Northwestern, Cal, Georgia and Baylor round out the top 5. Individually, Yasmin Schnack is ranked No. 4 in singles. Andrea Remynse is the Bruins' other ranked singles player, debuting at No. 41. In doubles, Remynse and Schnack are ranked No. 10, followed by the Bruin duo of Pamela Montez and Nina Pantic at No. 57.
