Pele Earns Scholar All-West Region Honors
Jan. 7, 2010
SEATTLE - Washington junior defender Kendyl Pele was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-West Region Third Team, the organization announced recently.
Pele, a Husky captain the last two seasons, carries a 3.42 grade-point average in Political Science. She has been named honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic each of the last two seasons, but this marks her first Scholar All-Region honor.
The Huskies' Defensive MVP each of the last two seasons, Pele helped lead the Huskies back into the NCAA Tournament and on to the NCAA Second Round for the second straight season in 2009. She was one of four Huskies to start all 22 games and she has now started all 63 games in her Husky career. She led the team to a 1.00 goals-against average and helped the team allow just 12 goals in Pac-10 play, third-fewest in the conference. She was also named the Husky Nike Invitational Defensive MVP.
Pele and seven other starters from the 2009 team will return in 2010 to help lead the Huskies to their third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
