Cardinal Women Cage Tigers with Trio

STANFORD, Calif.-- No. 2-ranked Stanford Women's Swimming (4-0) cruised by visiting Pacific (4-3) 154-to-97 in the first dual meet of the New Year's. The Cardinal posted the fastest times in all 16 events, paced by three wins overall by Elaine Breeden, Betsy Webb and Liz Smith.
The trio opened up the meet along with Kate Dwelley to touch the wall ahead of seven competitors in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.61, and closed out the event with the fastest time of any of the final six 200 relay teams with a time of 1:33.29, a “B” standard time.
In between, Breeden won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.24, Webb won the 50 free with a mark of 23.23 and Smith won the 500 freestyle, at that point as an exhibition, with a mark of 4:55.29.
Julia Smit, who broke two world records last month in England in the individual medleys, won the 100 freestyle with a “B” time of 48.97 and the 100 back with a “B” standard of 55.07.
The Cardinal are next in action when they host Arizona at Stanford on January 22.
