Tayler Champion Women's Basketball

Jan. 11, 2010

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State women's basketball head coach LaVonda Wagner announced Monday that freshman Tayler Champion has elected to leave the program in order to play closer to home.

'We will miss having Tayler Champion in our basketball program,' Wagner said. 'She is always welcome in our Oregon State women's basketball family. She has decided to seek other opportunities closer to home where she will have an immediate impact on the floor. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.'

Said Champion: 'I would like to thank Coach Wagner and Oregon State for the opportunity I was given here. At this time it's important for me to finish out my career closer to home at a place I can play right away. I wish the Oregon State women's basketball team continued success.'

Champion, a native of Inglewood, Calif., appeared in 10 games for the Beavers this season, averaging 6.4 minutes with 2.1 points.

Oregon State next plays Thursday night when the Beavers visit Arizona in a 6 p.m. PT tip. Catch the action live on KLOO 1340-AM in the Corvallis area or by visiting Beaver Nation Online (osubeavers.com). Ron Callan will call all the action.
