Hopfner-Hibbs Selected Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week

Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA sophomore Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs was selected the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 4-10, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Hopfner-Hibbs, a sophomore from Toronto, Ont., won the all-around with a 39.375 as the fifth-ranked Bruins defeated No. 2 Utah, 196.6-192.125. In its first meet of the 2010 season, UCLA hit all 24 routines in competition, and Hopfner-Hibbs recorded one of the team's scores of 9.9 or higher and three of UCLA's 15 scores of 9.8 or higher. The reigning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, Hopfner-Hibbs won the floor exercise with a 9.925. Nationally, her score on the floor exercise tied for the highest score for opening weekend. She also tied for first on the balance beam with a score of 9.875.
This is the fourth-career weekly honor for Hopfner-Hibbs and UCLA's 27th all-time Gymnast of the week selection.
Also receiving weekly honors was Arizona's Britnie Jones, who earned Special Performance of the Week acclaim.
